DAV Senior Secondary Educational Tour 2022 was organised on 8th of December to T. S. Rahaman Maritime College, Nhava Sheva, Navi Mumbai. It was an eagerly anticipated event of the calendar year. More than 250 students accompanied by 15 teachers were part of the tour. 

It was a half an hour sojourn to the venue. The college is situated amidst verdant green. No sooner did we alight from the buses, than the greenery of the place mesmerised us. Students were decided into 4 groups and escorted to various points inside the campus by the merchant Navy cadets deputed for the purpose. 

The various highlights of the tour were the museum, jetty and fire demonstration. The museum showcased maritime history of the country, right from the Indus Valley Civilization, through the Marathas, Mughals, Portuguese and the British. Students were left spellbound by the artifacts and models, especially by an actual  boat, 'Machava' used for fishing and transporting people from Nhava to Bombay, as it was called then. The jetty demonstrated the rescue techniques deployed at sea. Next was the fire extinguishing demonstration. Different categories of fire; A,B,C and D, depending on the combustibility of the materials, were explained. We all know that water should not be used to douse oil fires. When the same was demonstrated by a person in fire resistant suit, it elicited wonder enlightenment in equal measure. 

The tour concluded with the address by the college Principal Dr. Ashutosh Apandkar who explained the job opportunities in merchant Navy. Students were immensely eager to have more information about the same since it is unchartered territory for them.. The educational tour concluded on this high note.
