Ali Afroz of D.A.V. Public school, Nerul won ‘The Hindustan Times Scholarship’ award where 42,547 students from class 6 to 9 from 275 schools of Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai participated.The entry to the competition was free and students were asked to write an essay about themselves and their ambitions in the first round. Based on these 150 students were shortlisted. The shortlisted students appeared for a personal interview at "The Hindustan Times" office, taken by Mr Pervin Nair, Dy Editor and soumya Bhattacharya, Editor. Finally 50 outstanding students were selected for the prestigious awards
The award of Rs 50,000, a merit certificate and a trophy was presented in a glittering ceremony is the presence of renound panelist line Leander Paes, Bolloywood Director Amol Gupte and R. Balki. Mountaineer Arjun Bajpeyee and Saumya Battacharya, the editor ‘The Hindustan Times’ at shanmukhananda Hall Mumbai.
